Leaderboard
Ranked by returns against the S&P 500 over the same 20 market sessions.
How scoring works
Everyone is measured over the same trailing 20 sessions. New portfolios qualify after completing the full window. Your score is (1 + your return) ÷ (1 + SPY’s return) − 1, including reinvested dividends.
For example, +10% versus +5% scores +4.76%. Equal scores share a rank. This measures returns, not risk-adjusted skill.
How to play
Build a portfolio with virtual money and real company stocks.
Start with $100,000
Buy fractional shares in any of the 24 companies or SPY. No deposits, resets, short selling, margin, fees, or real money. Cash earns no interest.
Orders fill at a future close
Submit before 9:30 a.m. New York time for that session’s closing price. Later orders wait for a later session. Weekends and holidays roll forward. Orders lock at their eligibility cutoff, even if the market is closed.
Buy orders reserve cash. Sell a percentage of a holding; the proceeds become available after settlement. Splits are accounted for and dividends are automatically reinvested.
Compete over the same dates
The leaderboard compares everyone over the same 20 completed trading sessions. New players qualify after 20 sessions. TWR handles cash flows, but does not equalize start dates; the common window does that here.
Practice and live are separate
Practice uses simulated prices and four labeled example players. “Next market day” advances the shared practice league. Live accounts and standings are separate, and live time cannot be advanced manually.
Market data and pricing
Live prices come from Alpaca daily bars after 6 p.m. New York time. The default IEX feed covers one exchange, not the consolidated market close. All players use the same feed and settlement batch. New orders pause if the feed reports an error.
Day’s return includes reinvested dividends. Holding gains reflect net purchase cost, not tax-lot accounting. Sell orders execute before buy orders at settlement.
